Jeremy Kreck’s life in the vineyards began at a young age, driving a tractor on his family’s ranch before he could drive a car. A farmer at heart, his path to winemaking was unexpected. After studying Agribusiness at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a minor in Viticulture, he began working at his family’s winery in 2000. The following fall, after helping out with his first harvest in the cellar, he was hooked. He then continued his education with wine production courses at UC Davis, and has been crafting wine while still watching over the vineyards ever since.
A special project working under winemaker Zelma Long in 2005 brought about an interest in site-specific zinfandels, which would simmer for a while. Later, a building curiosity about some of the heritage old vine zinfandel blocks that are in sacred existence piqued his interest.
In 2016, Jeremy and his wife, Mindy launched Kreck Wines, aiming to showcase exceptional old vine zinfandel vineyards situated in ideal growing regions to celebrate the best of zinfandel. With respect and appreciation to the farmers and generations of families who have cared for these vineyards, the wines are crafted to spotlight the purity of the fruit character from these strong, magnificent vines.
